This award is given to the DHS senior who “best exemplifies the qualities of patriotism, citizenship, dependability and service to community.”
Elected by faculty and fellow senior class members, John will receive the award as well as a pin and certificate from DAR Good Citizen Chairman, Kim Kiner, and Regent, Catherine Love, during the holiday gathering, which will be hosted by Winifred and Tom Lom.
John has made countless contributions to both his educational environment as well as the local community. He is a member of the Community Council, Vice President of the student body, and a member of the Best Buddies Program, which helps to build relationships for students with disabilities and the student body.
John is also a state-certified EMT. He spends much of his free time volunteering at Post 53 providing emergency services to the community.
John is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Mandarin Honors Society, the Tri-M National Music Honor Society, and the National Science Honors Society. Last year, he participated in a Stem Fair, where he studied telomere length in relation to cancer in human cells.
John is also known for his musical talents. He plays many different types of saxophone and is a member of his school’s High Honors Wind Ensemble and Concert Band.
In the future, John wants to pursue his passion. He has a goal of going to medical school and becoming a pediatric physician.
